YEAR OF SPACE/ A landmark free, outdoor, public exhibition, brand new resources and activities, an exciting public lecture series and more

Our 2021 Year of Space provided a galactic 12 months and included an enthralling free public lecture series which took us on a journey through the Solar System and onto the lesser explored corners of the universe.

During the summer our first ever free, outdoor exhibition ¡§
Spacescapes- Postcards from our Solar System¡¨ provided a spectacular photographic display which explored the ways in which understanding the Earth enables us to uncover the history of other planetary bodies. If you didn¡¦t manage to catch it in person or simply wish to enjoy it all over again visit our virtual tour

In addition, we now have some fantastic space related educational resources available on our website including
posters, activities and factsheets.

POLICY/ Climate change, COP26 and geoscience

In November we attended COP26, the annual global United Nations climate summit, held this year in Glasgow. We sent a delegation of staff and Fellows to raise awareness of the many ways in which geoscience is critical to delivering solutions that mitigate the impacts of climate change.

Visit our website to find coverage of all of our work around COP26, including publications, blogs and on-the-ground reporting. You can also watch a video of our dedicated event "Hydrogen - a silver bullet or a red herring?" and access our education and outreach resources on climate change and decarbonisation.

LIBRARY/ Ensuring continuous Library services plus five new online exhibitions

Despite the challenges 2021 has brought, we worked hard to ensure continuous service from our Library throughout. On top of regular services, the Library curated a variety of online exhibitions, including Mary Anning and The Geological Society, The Three (Thames) Tunnels and Brixham Cave and the Antiquity of Man.

Our Library is currently CLOSED to visitors, however staff will continue to visit on a weekly basis to process postal loans, document supply and other enquiries. For more information please visit our
website.
